I hired a yoga instructor to come into the office and show all my workers some simple low backache exercises that they can do at their work areas. The teacher had simple charts that showed each low backaches exercise step by step. I had one of these charts blown up and positioned it in the lunchroom area. This helps as a reminder throughout the day to finish the simple stretching and repositioning that makes up the main part of low backache exercise. The coach explained that the main reason workers were experiencing pain in their lower back was due to going from sitting in one position to lifting, without warming the muscles. By implementing the simple warming techniques the muscles are not strained and they will get rid of back pain. Also the stretching exercises different muscles than are utilized for sitting for a long time. The yoga instructor was agreeable to come to the office 2 days a week during the lunch hour to provide a low impact stretching class for those that wanted to participate. The class would take about twenty minutes. As incentive for participating I told my workers that those that participated in the low backache exercise class could leave twenty minutes earlier or come in 20 minutes later on that day.

By doing this easy incentive for carrying out low back pain exercise and getting rid of back pain, I have significantly reduced the number of hours my workers are out sick. My workers are also reporting that since they're completing the low backache exercise program they have more vigor at the end of the work day. Several workers take part in the low backache exercise sessions each week. Some even do the low back pain exercise routine together on days when the instructor does not come in. It's a great feeling for me as a supervisor to know I have helped my workers feel better.
